DAN WOODEN MASK - Ca. 19th - 20th century AD. A Dan wooden mask from the area of Côte d’Ivoire/Liberia. Carved with strongly abstracted features, including a ridged forehead, prominent nose, and full lips. Miniature masks of this type, known as ma go, were carried on the person or kept in shrines, functioning as protective and spiritual objects.
