ANGOLA CHOKWE CHAIR - Ca. late 19th century AD. A finely carved hardwood chair with a square seat, fully studded with raised tacks, extending over the frame and legs. The backrest is decorated with geometric incisions and surmounted by a boldly carved human mask-head, framed by a stylised coiffure. Such chairs were reserved for chiefs and dignitaries in Tschokwe society.
