BYZANTINE HIGH KARAT GOLD PENDANT WITH CAMEO DEPICTING CHRIST - Ca. AD 800 - 1000. An oval pendant with a raised image of Christ Pantocrator, shown frontally with a nimbate cross behind the head, holding a Gospel book in his left hand. The image is enclosed within a plain gold frame. A suspension loop is affixed at the top, fronted by a prominent gold bead. Clusters of small applied gold beads are positioned at the horizontal axis and along the lower edge of the frame. For similar see: The Penn Museum, 29-128-575.
