RARE BYZANTINE GLASS BOTTLE IN BRONZE OPENWORK SUSPENSION MOUNT - Ca. AD 500 - 700. A cylindrical glass bottle set within an openwork bronze mount, suspended by three chains joined at the top by a hook and converging through a pierced rosette terminal. The clear glass body is enclosed in a cage of bronze cross-shaped mounts, each arm decorated with concentric circles and terminating in rounded lobes. The crosses extend from a ring at the shoulder to another at the base, which rests on three ball feet. A domed bronze lid covers the mouth of the bottle.Size: 450mm x 80mm; Weight: 310gProvenance: Private UK collection; previously acquired on the London art market in the 1970s.This piece is accompanied by a historical report from Alessandro Neri, an international Cultural Heritage expert based in Florence, Italy.This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
