MEROVINGIAN OR SAXON SILVER-GILT APPLIQUÉ WITH CENTRAL RED GARNET - Ca. AD 500 - 600. A circular silver-gilt appliqué with a flat profile, pierced at four points along the perimeter. The central raised section is decorated with a quatrefoil cut-out and inlaid with a red garnet, encircled by a punched border. Four radial bands divide the field into quadrants filled with gilded decoration, bordered by a slightly raised outer edge. The reverse is undecorated. For similar see: T. D.
