MATCHED PAIR OF LATE ROMAN HIGH KARAT GOLD EARRINGS WITH PEARLS AND AMETHYST PENDANTS - Ca. AD 300 - 500. A matched pair of gold earrings, each consisting of a circular openwork plate with a radiating pattern of stylised pelta-shaped motifs and a centrally mounted pearl. Attached at the back is a narrow wire hoop for suspension. Below the main plate, an openwork horizontal bar supports four descending loops, each bearing a short vertical link that terminates in a small gold sphere and a spherical amethyst bead.
