MEROVINGIAN OR VIKING BRONZE AND GOLD INLAID SWORD POMMEL - Ca. AD 700 - 900. A circular bronze sword pommel with a domed field rising to a central hemispherical boss, encircled by an applied gold collar articulated as a ring of triangular cells, several retaining red inlay; the collar bordered by fine beaded fillets. The surrounding bronze field is ornamented with a continuous zigzag band worked in low relief around the circumference.
