ISLAMIC INLAID WOODEN MODEL OF THE ALHAMBRA PALACE - Spain, Granada, Ca. end of 19th century AD. A modelled façade from the Alhambra Palace, Granada in carved stucco, polychromed and gilt, set as a deep niche with a twin cusped horseshoe arch supported by a central baluster shaft, the spandrels with scrolling arabesques and strapwork, the intrados with bead and pellet mouldings, and the frieze above with epigraphic panels. The upper register with a row of small arched windows filled with pierced lattice panels and alternating floral compartments. The dado fields flanking the niche are with geometric tile-mosaic patterns in green, yellow and blue. The whole mounted within a frame of inlaid woods and bone, the four cartouches to the sides inscribed with the Nasrid motto: Wala ghaliba illa Allah - 'And there is no victor except Allah.'Size: 420mm x 315mm; Weight: 1.2kgProvenance: Private UK Collection.This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
