Bidspirit auction | A MUGHAL OR DECCAN FRAMED

A MUGHAL OR DECCAN FRAMED MINIATURE PAINTING - India, or the Deccan, Ca. 18th - 19th century AD. A finely painted miniature on paper of rectangular form depicting a dramatic riverine scene. The central composition features a group of noblemen, clad in richly decorated garments and turbans, navigating turbulent waters on an ornately patterned carpet raft, their gestures and expressions evoking tension. Two partially submerged figures cling to the raft's edges, while armed soldiers on horseback and on foot await on the riverbanks, seemingly engaged in pursuit. The background showcases a fortified city, with domed and turreted architecture set against rolling green hills and trees, indicative of a royal setting. The border is adorned with delicately painted floral and foliate motifs. The reverse features a dense panel of Arabic or Persian script in black ink, with highlighted sections in red, suggesting a historical or literary manuscript source. Framed and mounted.Size: 410mm x 290mm; Weight: 985gProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
