OTTOMAN INLAID BOX-BOARD FOR CHESS AND BACKGAMMON - Ca. 19th - 20th century AD. A wooden folding box-board of rectangular form with a hinged case and two front hasps. The exterior presents a chequered chessboard framed by bands of micro-mosaic, the surrounding ground veneered with geometric marquetry of mother of pearl and wood arranged as star tessellations within lozenge and diamond panels. The interior opens to a backgammon field with elongated triangular points set beneath panelled borders, all enclosed by conforming frames of repeating stellar motifs.Size: 260mm x 520mm; Weight: 2.8kgProvenance: Private UK Collection.This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
