ALLIBHOY VALLIJEE & SONS KASHMIRI PAINTED METAL DESPATCH BOX - Kashmiri, India, Ca. late 19th century AD. A rectangular metal despatch box. The exterior is hand painted in the Kashmiri style with dense polychrome and gilt floral scrolls and inscribed cartouches to the borders, with swing handles to the ends and a Chubb lock at the front. Below the lock, an oval plaque is applied, engraved with the address of Allibhoy Vallijee & Sons, Mooltan. The lid opens to a salmon-pink painted interior with a panel of vases and further floral ornament within a calligraphic border, the compartmented interior with fitted trays and divisions.Size: 185mm x 435mm; Weight: 7.9kgProvenance: Private UK Collection.This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
