CHINESE GILT DAGGER HILT - Qing Dynasty, Ca. 18th-20th century AD. An elegant Chinese gilt-metal scabbard mount or dagger hilt, richly decorated with gilded dragons in pursuit of flaming pearls amid scrolling clouds against a darkened metal ground. The long cylindrical form features a small perpendicular fitting, likely for securing the piece to a blade or scabbard. The dynamic depiction of sinuous dragons - symbols of imperial authority, power, and good fortune - reflects the sophisticated decorative metalwork of the Qing court and its associated workshops.
