CHINESE PORCELAIN JAR DECORATED IN IRON-RED WITH NINE DRAGONS AND SEA WAVES - Ca. 19th century AD. A porcelain jar of well-proportioned ovoid form with a short-waisted neck and slightly everted rim, decorated in rich tones of iron-red and green enamels. The body is intricately painted with nine dragons, each dynamically rendered with energetic bodies and fierce expressions, soaring amidst clouds. The base is encircled by a border of foaming sea waves, meticulously executed in green enamel. The “Nine Dragons” motif is deeply emblematic in Chinese culture, representing ultimate authority and the celestial order, as nine was regarded as the most auspicious number, associated exclusively with the Emperor.
