CHINESE CARVED LACQUER BOX - Qing Dynasty, Ca. 17th-20th century AD, or earlier. A carved lacquer box of rectangular form, finely carved through thick layers of red lacquer to reveal a scene of a scholar seated in a mountainous landscape, surrounded by rockwork beneath scrolling clouds. The border intricately decorated with floral blooms alternating with roundels enclosing stylised floral motifs.
