TWO CHINESE GOLD INGOTS - Republican Period, Ca. early-mid 20th century AD. A matched pair of small gold ingots of differing forms - one rectangular and the other of double-lobed “peanut” shape, each finely stamped with the auspicious ??? (Shuangxi, “Double Happiness”) mark within a recessed cartouche. The Shuangxi motif, symbolising joy, harmony, and marital felicity, was traditionally associated with wedding gifts or dowries and used on objects celebrating union and prosperity.
