TIBETAN THANGKA DEPICTING TSONGKHAPA - Ca. 19th-20th century AD. A painted Tibetan thangka depicting Tsongkhapa, the revered founder of the Gelugpa school of Tibetan Buddhism. The master is shown seated in meditation on a lotus pedestal, his face serene and compassionate, surrounded by a vibrant green nimbus and a radiating black mandorla. He wears the characteristic yellow pandit hat and richly decorated monastic robes in hues of red and orange. Tsongkhapa holds a white offering bowl in his left hand.
