ROMAN HIGH KARAT GOLD RING WITH CARNELIAN INTAGLIO DEPICTING EROTES HOLDING CLIPEUS - Ca. AD 200 - 400. A carnelian intaglio engraved with two winged erotes in profile, each shown standing on a baseline and supporting a central clipeus with an image of Sol wearing his radiate crown, driving a quadriga. The figures are carefully rendered with proportionate limbs and short wings, and the clipeus is delineated with a thick border. The intaglio is set in a heavy gold ring with an oval bezel and a rounded hoop that thickens towards the shoulders.
