IMPORTANT MEDIEVAL SOLID HIGH KARAT GOLD RING WITH LARGE SAPPHIRE - 34 GRAMS - Ca. AD 700 - 1000 A gold ring with a massive bezel rising from a stepped, lobed hoop. The bezel plate of cusped lozenge outline is fitted with four upstanding triangular prongs framing a large sapphire. The shoulders descend in three rounded steps on each side, separated by fine beaded ribs, and merge into a solid hoop of lenticular section. Size: D:16.31mm / US: 5 3/4 / UK: L; Weight: 33.9g. Provenance: Private London collection; previously acquired from a New York private collection formed in the 1980s.
