MEDIEVAL SOLID HIGH KARAT GOLD MERCHANT'S SEAL RING WITH INITIALS F AND R - Ca. AD 1100 - 1300 A gold ring with a flat-section hoop and an elongated bezel decorated in relief with an armoured St Maurice shown in profile, holding a long staff surmounted by a banner and an oval shield with a cross, seated on a horse above a simple groundline. The shoulders are ornamented with a raised cross within a plain field. Size: D:17.12mm / US: 6 3/4 / UK: N; Weight: 8.67g. Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of an early 2000s UK ancient art collection; formerly in the collection of G.M., prior to 1996.
