BEAUTIFUL BYZANTINE GOLD PENDANT WITH CENTRAL AMETHYST CABOCHON - Ca. AD 400 - 600 A gold openwork drop-shaped pendant with concentric frames linked by fine filigree scrolls and applied pellets. At the centre an oval amethyst cabochon is set in a raised bezel framed by a quatrefoil of wire loops. An integral suspension loop rises from the apex of the pendant.Size: 50mm x 45mm; Weight: 9g.Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was documented and authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery.
