BYZANTINE HIGH KARAT GOLD CROSS PENDANT WITH RED GARNET CABOCHON AND BLUE GLASS FINIALS - Ca. AD 600 A fine gold cross pendant formed from tubular arms slightly flaring outwards. Each arm terminates in a cylindrical socket fitted with a rounded blue glass finial. At the crossing a deep oval bezel is inlaid with a deep red garnet cabochon. Above, a domed cap with a beaded border supports a broad upright suspension loop.Size: 48mm x 35mm; Weight: 8.8g.Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was documented and authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery.
