BYZANTINE SOLID HIGH KARAT GOLD CROSS PENDANT WITH CRUCIFIXION - Ca. AD 500 - 700 A solid gold cross pendant of flat section with rounded arms and an integral suspension loop above. The front bears a figure of Christ in low relief, shown with outstretched arms and elongated body upon the cross. The upper arm with an eight-petalled rosette. Size: 35mm x 25mm; Weight: 8.5g. Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was documented and authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were published in a professional catalogue, a copy of which is available upon request.
