ROMAN AMETHYST INTAGLIO OF A MAENAD MAKING AN OFFERING IN HIGH KARAT GOLD RING - Ca. AD 200 - 250 An amethyst intaglio engraved with a standing maenad in profile, the slender figure nude save for a mantle falling from the shoulders, the left arm extended to hold a shallow offering bowl and one leg slightly advanced, all on a narrow groundline. The stone is set in an oval bezel of a possibly later gold finger ring with a solid hoop tapering evenly towards the back. Size: D:20.98mm / US: 11 3/8 / UK: W 1/2; Weight: 18g.
