STUNNING ROMAN HIGH KARAT GOLD RING WITH AMETHYST INTAGLIO DEPICTING CARACALLA - Ca. AD 200 - 250 A gold ring with a broad openwork hoop consisting of a wide inner band of cut scrolls between ribbed outer rims, with low-relief bosses at the shoulders. The tall box setting encloses a large amethyst intaglio engraved with a left-facing bust of the emperor Caracalla, with short curly hair bound in a laurel wreath and a full beard.
