ROMAN AGATE CAMEO DEPICTING NOBLEWOMAN OF ANTONINE PERIOD IN HIGH KARAT GOLD PENDANT - Ca. AD 160 - 180 An oval cameo with the bust of a draped noblewoman in right profile, carved in the white upper layer against a darker ground, her hair arranged in long waves drawn back from the face. Mounted in a possibly later gold pendant setting with a border incised with a radiating pattern and a ribbed cylindrical suspension loop at the apex, the reverse plain. Size: 35mm x 22mm; Weight: 5.7g. Provenance: Private UK collection; acquired on the London art market; formerly with R. Unger, Parthenon gallery, 1990s.
