ROMAN BANDED AGATE CAMEO OF A CHILD IN HIGH KARAT GOLD RING - Ca. AD 1 - 300 A banded agate cameo carved with the bust of a child in profile, the head with curly hair and upper chest rising from a dark central layer framed by a lighter outer band. The gem is set within an oval gold bezel with a plain rim of a possibly later gold ring with a solid hoop that broadens smoothly at the shoulders. Size: D:16.1mm / US: 5 1/2 / UK: K 1/2; Weight: 10g. Provenance: Private London collection of an established Mayfair dealer and scholar with over 40 years of experience; previously part of 1970s-1990s UK collection.
