EGYPTIAN POLYCHROME WOOD SARCOPHAGUS MASK - Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BC A polychrome wood sarcophagus mask with a pale face framed by a tripartite wig, the face with broad brows, large almond-shaped eyes with black cosmetic lines and pupils, a straight nose and a small smiling mouth. The wig is surmounted at the crown by a winged scarab supporting a solar disc, the outspread wings extending across the crown onto the lappets with finely detailed feathers. A broad multicoloured usekh-collar with concentric bands of geometric ornament spreads across the chest, the whole gessoed and richly painted in red, blue, green, yellow and black. Size: 625mm x 420mm; Weight: 14.19kg. Provenance: Private UK collection, acquired on the French art market; ex Private French Collection 1970s.
