EGYPTIAN BLACK STONE KOHL TUBE WITH BABOONS - Late Period, Ca. 664 - 332 BCA black stone kohl tube formed as a vertical cylindrical container rising from an oval base. The sides are flanked by a pair of seated baboons carved in the round, each with arms raised so that the hands meet against the sides of the cylinder. The upper part of the tube is engraved with horizontal bands and a register of lotus flowers.Size: 75mm x 50mm; Weight: 95g.Provenance: Private London collection; previously purchased from a New York Ancient Art Gallery; formally with C.W., Texas, purchased in the late 1970's.This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
