ILLYRIAN BRONZE HELMET - Ca. 500 BC A bronze helmet of Illyrian type with a tall domed skull with two pronounced longitudinal ribs running from the brow to the nape. The front with a broad rectangular opening for the face and integral elongated cheek guards descending in a gentle curve. A lower edge forms a slightly flaring neck guard at the back. The whole perimeter is set with a line of domed rivets for the attachment of an inner lining. A small peg projects above the forehead, and a ring at the rear. Size: 230mm x 265mm; Weight: 1.1kg. Provenance: Private London collection, formerly acquired on the American art market, previously acquired from an art gallery in Jerusalem in the 1990s.
