RARE OSTROGOTHIC PERIOD IRON SPANGENHELM - Ca. AD 800 - 1100An iron spangenhelm with a tall conical skull built from curving plates secured by narrow bands riveted along their length and converging at a small apex plate at the crown. The base of the skull is reinforced by an encircling band with a scalloped upper edge and small upright tongue-shaped projections at the front.Size: 210mm x 200mm; Weight: 1.29kg.Provenance: Private London collection; acquired in Germany; formerly with H.
