LARGE ROMAN MARBLE STATUE OF DIONYSUS - Ca. AD 1 - 200A marble statue fragment of Dionysus, with the nude torso and upper legs to above the knees. The abdomen is modelled with a gently recessed navel and soft transitions across the waist and hips, the pelvis set in a slight shift suggesting a contrapposto stance. One arm survives only as a truncated upper section at the shoulder. A strip of drapery is gathered against the upper left leg in a sequence of narrow, diagonal folds.
