ROMAN MARBLE BUST OF MAN LATE TRAJANIC - HEARLY HADRIAN PERIOD - Ca. AD 116 - 125 This finely carved, somewhat over life-size white marble portrait bust of a mature man is in excellent condition. Its total height is 70 cm, and the height of the head (from the bottom of the chin to the top of the head) is 26 cm. Only the end of the nose is broken off and the top of the left ear and rim of the right ear slightly chipped. A thin crack extends across the bottom front of the bust and up from there to the bottom of the indentation for the left arm. In that area there is also a slightly beige to yellowish discoloration. The surface has been somewhat polished to a semi-glossy finish. The individual represented, who is not identifiable in any other Roman portrait that has come down to us, is most likely a private person, with a look and hairstyle like that of the last official portrait type of the emperor Trajan, who ruled the Roman Empire from 98 to 117 AD.
