ROMAN MARBLE VENUS FIGURE - Ca. AD 300 - 400A marble figure of Venus standing nude on an integral oval base, her weight on the right leg with the left slightly advanced, the right arm drawn across the torso with the hand reaching towards the groin in a pudica gesture while the left arm grasps a fold of drapery drawn across the hips and falling to the feet. The torso is softly modelled with full rounded breasts and a slight shift at the hips, the head turned gently to one side and framed by centrally parted hair gathered into a low bun at the nape.Size: 240mm x 85mm; Weight: 880g.Provenance: Private UK collection; acquired in Germany; formerly with G.
