ROMAN MARBLE ARCHITERCTURAL CINERARY URN - Ca. AD 1 - 204 Roman marble cinerary urn with gabled lid, Imperial period, probably 2nd?3rd century AD, rectangular chest with a recessed inscription field framed by mouldings, flanked by pilaster strips carved with stylised leaf sprays and drill work, surmounted by a pediment with a reclining banqueter in low relief and flanking acroteria, sides and back largely plain with simple framing, interior hollowed, lid carved separately and fitting, surface wear and light deposits, minor chips and abrasions, visible cracks and old breaks with restorations, overall structurally coherent and well readable as a display piece. Size: 320mm x 260mm; Weight: 36,280 kg. Private London collection; previously acquired on the Belgian art market; originally in the collection of C D'hondt, Liege 1980?s.
