SUMERIAN MARBLE HEAD OF GODDESS WITH LAPIS LAZULI INLAID EYES - Ca. 2334 - 2154 BC A marble head of a goddess with large circular eye sockets inlaid with lapis lazuli. The rounded face is carved with prominent arched brows, a straight nose and a small, closed mouth. The hair forms a narrow band that flares out around the cheeks, with drilled circular recesses at each end above the jawline. Above, the coiffure rises into a domed mass encircled at the base by a cylindrical polos. Mounted. Size: 230mm x 130mm; Weight: 1.9kg.
