RARE ATTIC RED-FIGURE KYLIX WITH GYMNASIUM SCENE - Ca. 400 - 350 BCA red-figure terracotta kylix with a broad, shallow bowl on a low moulded foot, fitted with a pair of horizontal, outturned handles. The interior shows a gymnasium scene with a draped youth standing to the right, enveloped in a himation, with halteres set before him. An ivy tendril runs around the cavetto. The exterior shows two confronting pairs of youths, each figure wrapped in a himation, the pairs framed beneath the handles by upright palmettes.Size: 210mm x 45mm; Weight: 195g.Private London collection; previously acquired on the Belgian art market; originally in the collection of S Vanhoutte, Brussels 1990?s.For similar see: The National Archaeological Museum, Madrid, Inventory Number 11288.
