ATTIC BLACK-FIGURE SKYPHOS WITH DANCING FIGURES AND SPHINXES - Ca. 540 - 480 BCA black-figure terracotta skyphos with a deep conical body on a broad disc foot, and a pair of upswung loop handles set high on the wall. The exterior is decorated on each side with a frieze showing at the centre a draped female dancer between two nude youths, the group framed by seated sphinxes turned outwards, with a double dotted band below the rim and a further band around the lower body.Size: 140mm x 250mm; Weight: 435g.Provenance: Property of a London Ancient Art gallery, formerly English private collection, according to the heirs possibly purchased in some auction or Art Gallery during 1970s-1980s.This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.For similar see: The British Museum, Museum number 1836,0224.199.
