CAMPANIAN RED-FIGURE AMPHORA WITH EROS, MAENADS AND A YOUTH - Ca. 330 BCA red-figure amphora of elongated form with a tall ovoid body rising from a moulded ring foot to a sloping shoulder, high neck and broad outturned rim, the pair of vertical strap handles joining the shoulder to just below the rim. The neck is decorated with a band of upright palmettes and tendrils between narrow friezes of small tongues, the shoulder with chevrons. On the body, side A shows a flying winged Eros moving to the left above a maenad striding right with one arm raised, with a round object in the field and large palmettes flanking the scene. Side B shows a seated maenad and a standing cloaked youth facing one another, enclosed by tall palmettes and scrolling tendrils.
