BYZANTINE SGRAFFITO WARE CUP WITH A BIRD - EX ASHMOLEAN MUSEUM - Ca. AD 1300 - 1400 A sgraffito ware cup with a deep rounded bowl set over a short ring foot. The interior is covered with a pale slip with green washes and is decorated at the centre with an incised stylised bird in profile, shown standing on thin legs with a long beak, horned crest and pointed tail, the neck, breast and tail marked by closely spaced strokes. A narrow green band accents the inner rim. Size: 85mm x 160mm; Weight: 252g.
