This reference stands as one of only two vintage Rolex models to feature both an automatic self-winding movement and a full triple calendar with a moon phase complication produced in series.While the reference was available in various metals, this example is crafted in stainless steel, a material variation that is exceptionally rare; current scholarship suggests that of the approximately 1,000 to 1,500 total units produced across all variations, only around 600 were cased in steel, making it a highly elusive find for the discerning collector. This non-Oyster watch was produced for only a very short period between approximately 1949 and 1952.
