Rolex Oyster Air King ”Tropical Dial” Precision Ref 4499, One Of The Original ”AIR” Series Models, V - C.1946ABA handsome and historically significant gentleman's stainless steel wristwatch by Rolex, this highly collectible Oyster Air-King Precision, Reference 4499. This reference is notable as one of the very earliest ”Air” series models, a line created by Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf as a tribute to the British Royal Air Force (RAF) pilots of the Battle of Britain. While the Ref. 4499 eventually became the standard Air-King, the name ”Air-King” was part of a broader, short-lived collection that included other rare names like Air-Lion, Air-Tiger, and Air-Giant.This specific timepiece is characterised by its classic Oyster case and original, sought-after champagne dial which has matured with a unique ”tropical” patina. Its elegant dial features applied Art Deco-style Arabic numerals at the quarters and blued steel hands, all preserved in charming vintage condition.
