MATCHED PAIR OF HELLENISTIC HIGH KARAT GOLD RAM-HEAD EARRINGS - Ca. 300 - 100 BC. A matched pair of gold earrings, each formed as a tapering twisted wire hoop, capped at the wider end with a scrollwork collar from which projects a ram's head with incised eyes, protruding ears and horns, and a ring beneath the muzzle forming the closure. The collection was authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were also published in a professional catalogue.
