LARGE BYZANTINE SILVER-GILT ENKOLPION WITH CRUCIFIXION - Ca. AD 900 - 1100 . A silver-gilt hinged enkolpion with a broad suspension loop. One face is engraved with the Virgin Orans and the Christ Child before her, beneath the Greek abbreviation 'MP ?Y', meaning 'Mother of God'. The reverse depicts Christ standing with outstretched arms between two crosses, beneath 'IC XC', the abbreviated Greek form of 'Jesus Christ'. For similar see: Helen C. Evans, and W. D.
