Polemic! She'elot u-Teshuvot Machaneh Yehuda. First Edition, Livorno 1803. Very Rare. - Sefer Machaneh Yehuda, by the esteemed Rabbi Yehuda Kassin.  Livorno, 1803, First Edition. Includes rabbinic endorsements and halachic responsa from leading rabbis of Aleppo (Aram Tzova). Extremely rare!  Has only appeared twice at public auction. Polemical Background: Rabbi Yehuda Kassin [1708–1784], Av Beit Din of Aleppo, composed this work as a sacred battle for the sake of Heaven against Rabbi Shlomo Laniado, the head of Aleppo’s rabbinate. The dispute concerned the foreign communities, the “Señores Francos, ” who had arrived in Aleppo from the cities of France. The debate was whether these immigrants were obligated to follow the local customs and regulations of the Aleppan Jewish community. In this work, Rabbi Yehuda Kassin refutes the views of Rabbi Shlomo Laniado and exempts the newcomers from local customs and enactments. The work was completed in 1777 and published posthumously.
