Collection of Antique Seforim, 1716–1785. Signatures. - 1–2. Mishnayot with the commentary of Rashi and Etz HaChaim by Rabbi Yaakov Chagiz. Order Mo’ed. Berlin, 1716–1717. Two copies in two volumes (in 2nd copy the title page of order Zeraim was bound by mistake). Three handwritten signatures of Rabbi Baer HaKohen Adler ( Otzar HaRabbanim #4495), son of Rabbi Mordechai Adler, Av Beit Din of Hanover (who was himself the son of Rabbi Baer David, uncle of the ”Great Eagle, ” Rabbi Natan Adler of Frankfurt). Rabbi Baer was one of the prominent teachers and Dayanim in Frankfurt am Main during the time of the Chatam Sofer and Machaneh Levi. He was also the brother of Rabbi Natan Adler, author of Netina LaGer and Chief Rabbi of England. His Torah insights were published by his brother, Rabbi Gabriel Adler, in the booklet Knafay Nesharim included in the sefer Lashon Zahav, Offenbach, 1823. Rabbi Baer Adler is well-known for his vigorous opposition to the decree attempting to abolish the mitzvah of circumcision, which Reform Jews tried to implement. In response, he authored—together with his teacher Rabbi Ze’ev Wolf Trier and colleague Rabbi Avraham Fulda—a German-language work titled “Rabbinischer Gutachten über die Beschneidung” (Rabbinic Opinion on Circumcision), printed in Frankfurt am Main in 1844. That volume included letters and halachic responsa from leading Ashkenazi rabbis, including the Aruch LaNer, Rabbi Tzvi Hirsch Chayes, the Mateh Levi, and others. 3.
