Collection of Six Antique Seforim, 1726–1834. - 1. Responsa of Rabbi Yosef ben Lev (Mahari ben Lev) – Amsterdam, 1726 (Part 3–4). Lacking the first title page. Stamps of Rabbi Yaakov Ben-Zion HaKohen Mendelsohn (1876–1941) – son of Rabbi Mendel Morin, born in Kreitzburg (Vitebsk region, Russia). He was ordained by the Gaon of Rogatchov, was drafted into the Russian army, but deserted, fled Russia, and changed his surname to Mendelsohn. In 1897, at the age of 22, he was appointed rabbi of the ”Chevrat HaTorah” synagogue and a dayan in Leeds. In 1905 he became rabbi of Gateshead, and later of Glasgow, Scotland. In 1915, he emigrated to the United States, and in 1919 was appointed rabbi of the ”Tifereth Yisrael of Brisk D'Lita” congregation. In 1921, he became the chief rabbi of Newark and supervised kosher certification. He founded and led the ”Beit Midrash HaGadol” community. In 1940, he served as chairman of the Union of Orthodox Rabbis of the U.S. and Canada, and worked to raise awareness among American Jewry to support refugees of World War II. He authored several works: HaTzayid (1904), Sha'arei Tzion (1904), Derash Yaavetz (1911), Mishnat Yaavetz (1913), among others. 2 . Includes Middot Aharon at the beginning – a commentary on the Baraita of Rabbi Yishmael regarding the thirteen hermeneutical principles of Torah interpretation. Dessau, 1742. With approbations from great rabbis, including the Kenesset Yechezkel, Rabbi Aryeh Leib of Amsterdam, and rabbis of Frankfurt am Main. 3 .
