Three One Dollar Bills Received from the Lubavitcher Rebbe – Distributed by the Tankistim - These three one-dollar bills were personally given by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, to the ”Tankistim”—the devoted Chassidim and yeshivah bochurim who operated the Mitzvah Tanks, Chabad’s renowned mobile outreach vehicles. Following the Rebbe’s practice, the dollars were then distributed by the Tankistim to others as part of their mission to inspire and spread acts of goodness and kindness. The Rebbe’s custom of distributing dollar bills—to be given to tzedakah—was rooted in his profound belief that every interaction should lead to a mitzvah. By handing dollars to the Tankistim, the Rebbe extended his reach, entrusting them with the sacred task of bringing that energy further into the world.
