A Dollar from the Lubavitcher Rebbe – For a Shlichut Mission, 1976 - This sacred one-dollar bill was personally received from the holy hands of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, in the year 5736 (1976) by a Chassid departing on a sacred shlichut (emissary mission) to a Jewish community abroad. Shlichut, a cornerstone of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement, is the Rebbe’s visionary initiative of sending shluchim—rabbinical couples and individuals—to Jewish communities around the world. Their mission is to establish Chabad Houses, promote Jewish life and learning, offer support, and uplift every Jew regardless of background or level of observance. Through personal dedication, these emissaries help Jews reconnect with their heritage and bring the light of Torah and mitzvot into every corner of the world. Written on this bill in the hand of the Chassid is the phrase ”צאתכם לשלום תשל”ו” (”Go in peace – 5736”), marking both the spiritual charge and the time of departure. It stands as a deeply meaningful artifact, embodying the Rebbe’s personal blessing and empowerment, and representing the enduring mission of transforming the world through acts of goodness, kindness, and Torah learning.
