Tanya – Large Format Edition With a Dollar, Received from the Holy Hands of the Lubavitcher Rebbe – Yud Shevat, 1990 – ”200th Birthday of the Tzemach Tzedek - 40 Years of the Rebbe's Leadership” - Sefer Likkutei Amarim Tanya from the Admor HaZaken, published by Kehat, 10th Shvat 1990. For the 10th of Shvat 1990, the 40th year of the Rebbe’s leadership, the Rebbe ordered a special (enlarged) printing of the Tanya. A huge number of people showed up to celebrate (around 12,000 people!), from all over the world. On the inside of the cover of the Tanya and on the accompanying Dollar bill it is written by R' Yaakov Ginsberg: On The Tanya: ”Received from the hands his Honor and Holiness the Admo”r Shlit”a, On the 10th of Shvat, 5750”. On The Dollar Bill: ”Received from the Hands of his Honor and Holiness the Admo”r Shlit”a, on the 10th day of Shvat 5750”. The Distribution Ceremony: In the booklet For Strengthening the Connection – 29 (pp. 13–15), קובץ לחיזוק ההתקשרות- the distribution ceremony of the present volume of Sefer HaTanya is described in detail, on Monday, the 10th of Shevat, 5750 (1990). “In honor of the 10th of Shevat — the 40th year of the leadership of the Rebbe — a vast crowd arrived… from all corners of the world. After the Rebbe returned from the Ohel, he entered the synagogue for Mincha and Maariv… and afterward delivered a short talk for several minutes. He then told the crowd that he would distribute to each and every one a volume of Sefer HaTanya (in a large format with a thin cover) together with a one-dollar bill for charity. On the Tanya was printed: ‘10 Shevat 5750 — Forty Years of the Leadership of the Rebbe.’ After the talk, the Rebbe descended from the platform and began the distribution. The distribution started at about 7:10 p.m. At the beginning there was no organized order, and many ‘helpers’ and ‘organizers’ were standing around the Rebbe. The Rebbe turned to them, gave them each a Tanya, and with his holy hand signaled them to step aside, saying that he could manage alone — without them. In the middle of the distribution there was disorder and pushing, with loud shouting. The Rebbe turned several times to his secretary, asking what was happening and telling them to make order. To one man standing on a table, the Rebbe signaled that he should get down. After a while, order was restored, and the distribution continued as usual. When some children passed by and asked to receive an additional Tanya for someone else, the Rebbe answered ‘No, ’ and also shook his head in refusal. There were, however, a few individuals to whom the Rebbe did give an additional Tanya. At the conclusion of the distribution, the Rebbe waited a bit and asked if there were still people who had not yet received. When the response was negative, he placed into his possession the many notes he had received from people during the distribution, and he took his siddur along with two more volumes of Tanya.
