A Special One Dollar Bill Received from the Holy Hands Lubavitcher Rebbe, on the 15th day of Kislev 5748 with a Bracha for Arichat Yamim VeShanim Tovot - Blessing for Long Life - This extraordinary one-dollar bill was received directly from the holy hands of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, on Sunday, the 15th day of Kislev, 5748. On this day, the Rebbe gave special recognition to members of the Chevra Kadisha (Jewish burial society), an organization he held in the highest regard due to its role in performing “Chesed Shel Emet” – the ultimate act of selfless kindness. This act of respect has deep historical roots in the Chabad tradition: When the Alter Rebbe, Rabbi Shneur Zalman of Liadi, founder of Chabad, was a young boy of only 13, he expressed a desire to join the Chevra Kadisha. Despite being initially refused for being too young and unmarried, a Din Torah (halachic arbitration) allowed him to assist members in their sacred duties. Years later, following the passing of the Maggid of Mezritch, spiritual master of the Alter Rebbe, lots were drawn to assign the taharah (ritual purification), and the Alter Rebbe was honored with the purification of the Maggid’s holy head. In this spirit, the Lubavitcher Rebbe chose to honor the Chevra Kadisha on this particular Sunday. R’ Yaakov, a dedicated member of the Chevra Kadisha, received this dollar personally from the Rebbe, who gave him a heartfelt blessing of “Arichut Yamim Veshanim Tovot” – a long life and many good years. On the Front of this Dollar Bill and on the Envelope which contained the dollar is written by R' Avraham Yaakov Ginsberg: On the Dollar: ” On the 15th day of Kislev 5748, Received from the Hands of his Honor and Holiness the Admo”r Shlit”a, with a Bracha for ”Arichat Yamim VeShanim Tovot” - (Blessing for Long Life and Many Good Years) ” On The Envelope: I have received this Dollar from the Hands of his Honor and Holiness the Admo”r Shlit”a, with the  Bracha for ”Arichat Yamim VeShanim Tovot” - (Blessing for Long Life and Many Good Years), For Being involved with the Chevra Kadisha in Chabad, On the 15th day of Kislev 5748” The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, led the Chabad-Lubavitch movement from 1951. He is known for his profound wisdom, compassionate leadership, and unwavering dedication to the Jewish people. One of the many ways he sought to uplift and inspire was through the distribution of dollar bills. It was customary for the Lubavitcher Rebbe to give out dollars to his Chassidim and many other men women and children who came to see him on different occasions. The Dollars were usually distributed in relation to Holidays and Significant Days of the Year, on Sundays, and in the Rebbes later years different variations of dollars were given out and included along with the special Kuntreisim that would be distributed in 770. The tradition of the Rebbe's Sundays began in the 1980s when the Rebbe started giving out one-dollar bills to individuals who came to seek his blessings and advice. The Rebbe saw the dollar bill as a symbol of material prosperity, and by giving it away during these special Sundays, he intended to infuse it with spiritual energy. The recipients of these dollars were encouraged to donate them to charity, thereby transforming the physical currency into a vehicle for positive change and spiritual growth.
